Strong Functions
Strong Functions (Program, Creative, Ignoring, and Demonstrative) have high “bandwidth” and rich internal resources.
- They carry a natural desire to express themselves and convey their insights to the world.
- They operate proactively on their own initiative.
- The person rarely doubts the validity or value of what emerges from them.
How a Strong Function Sounds in Speech
Strong Functions provide high resolution within their domain: the person naturally perceives finer distinctions—not through effort or study, but because that is how their perception is wired. Where one person sees “red,” another easily distinguishes scarlet, burgundy, crimson, and coral, and can articulate exactly how they differ.
When speaking through a strong function, a person typically shows:
-
Large active vocabulary — They effortlessly use precise words because each corresponds to a real, tangible distinction they perceive.
-
Diversity of expression — They rarely repeat the same idea; instead, they employ different terms for different shades of meaning, as these feel like genuinely distinct phenomena to them.
-
Ability to detail — They can take two closely related concepts and explain the fundamental, experiential difference between them (not just dictionary definitions), because their perception automatically draws clear boundaries.
Importantly, a person doesn’t just "know words" in their strong function. Language serves as a precise tool to capture distinctions that are immediately obvious to them. Because strength is about perception rather than behavior or expertise, it can appear modest. The person may speak quietly or tentatively, but when given space and a good question, they reveal layers of nuance that others miss entirely.
Important Clarifications
-
These are consequences of strength/weakness, not definitions. One can be an expert in a weak (even PoLR) function through training and still be an amateur in a strong function. True expertness is rare.
-
A person’s self-assessment can be misleading. They tend to undervalue their strong functions (“everything I say is mundane”) and can be easily flattered or misled about their weak ones.
-
High resolution only indicates potential. Whether that potential is developed depends on many factors.
