Elena M. (SLI) about Food

When I was a child, I remember being sent to the store as early as five years old. For bread, milk, little things. I used to go to the store and bring back the change—that was before I even started school. I always counted the change somehow. I remember smoothing out the foil, and I remember the taste of that milk from the bottle—I liked it so much, especially with a loaf of bread.

Mom would send me to the store for bread and milk, and when I came home, the first thing I’d do was grab the crust and pour some milk—specifically from the bottle. Because there were also those triangular cartons, but the taste was different. They were more expensive, and the milk was fattier, but I liked the one from the bottle.
